In many ways, the struggle to get the word out about The Shadow Christian is a modern-day
version of The Little Engine that Could. After the manuscript received an endorsement from
Stephen Arterburn, co-author of the breakthrough bestseller Every Man’s Battle, the author and
his wife were eagerly making plans to promote the book, which was set to be published in
October of 2005. Then Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans. After a year in Florida,
having to move four times during that period, the eventually relocated to Atlanta. “In the midst of
all the chaos and uncertainty,” says the author, “God continued to open doors for the book.” The
Shadow Christian has garnered enthusiastic endorsements from Christian leaders and authors, a
rarity for a self-published book. Says the author: “The simple fact that so many prominent people
have taken the time to read a book sent to them by someone they never heard of tells me that
God is at work here.” Al and Linda havegiven their testimony at conferences, colleges, and

THE SHADOW CHRISTIAN
AL COLE is a seasoned writer and editor who holds a master's
degree in public affairs journalism from The American University in
Washington, D.C. During his 15 years in the nation's capital, he
covered everything from politics to pop culture. He is the author of
The Shadow Christian, a simple parable that puts readers inside
the hearts and minds of an ordinary couple forced to confront the
consequences of sexual sin. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Al and his
wife, Linda, lived in a suburb of New Orleans. They have been
married for 29 years and now reside in Marietta, Georgia.
LINDA COLE is co-author of The Shadow Christian, which is
based on the private journals she and Al kept during  the years that
followed her discovery that her husband was addicted to Internet
pornography. She shares her inspiring testimony of heartache and
healing at conferences, colleges, and churches. Linda believes their
story offers great insight into the many issues a couple must face to
restore their relationship. An artist by training, Linda studied at the
University of New Orleans, Tulane University, and the Maryland
College of Art and Design. Al and Linda have three grown children.
